Reflection on Blood Diamonds

Throught this research process i have read many different articles about these diamonds and learned much about the conflict going on in Africa over these diamonds. I have read places that it is getting better in places like Sierra Loene but I believe without intervention, these blood diamonds will never truely go away. The fight for money shouldn’t be valued more then somebody’s life. Hopefully one day they will be out lawed or something, but until then this is still a problem.

Blood Diamond Photo/Quote

This a quote from the movie blood diamonds, and what it is pretty much saying is that the conditions in Sierra Leone are so bad that they believe that god has left them. what it is saying is how could anybody be that cruel or hurt another just for a stone.

Kanye West wrote a song about blood diamonds, to help get the word out about these diamonds. This is a huge artist and for him to take the time and effort to write a song specifially about these diamonds shows how important it is that these diamonds are stopped. With more help and knowlegde, hopefull the world will help aid in the blood diamond conflict.

Book Response

I read Blood Diamonds, tracing the deadly path of the world most precious stone by Greg Campbell and it helped widen my knowledge of blood diamonds vastly. The book was written specifically about blood diamonds and the author follows around people who are in the blood diamond industry. Greg Campbell even puts himself into harms way just by writting this book. He went through a great task to write this book and it really shows the problem with blood diamonds.

Blood Diamonds poem 3

Deep in the forest
the forest of death lies a diamond
a diamond so red
so red with the blood
the blood of so many
so red with the blood of the weak and the petty
Deep in the forest
the forest of the dead
lies a diamond
a diamond of death…

By Zach Onamack
Another poem that I choose for my Capstone project was Blood diamonds by Zack Onamack. This poem was fantastic and it also helped showed the pain that these people go through. All of my poems do a great job of painting a vivid picture of the blood diamond industry. These diamonds are in no way shape or form worth more then a person’s life.

Blood Diamonds

Blood Diamonds

From the fields of Sierra Leone

to the shops of Belgium

blood diamonds in the pockets of rebels,

black hearts black market,

this priceless booty extracted

from severed hands of women and children.

What kind of mind would wield that rusty axe,

hack away the human potential to take, to give, to touch?

You’ve seen the ads: Diamonds are a girl’s best friend.

This girl has no fingers.

Eyes luminous, she tells the reporter:

I don’t want people to buy diamonds.

Diamonds are killing us.

I choose this poem to be part of my blog for many reasons. Whether it was it great imagery or how it helped paint a picture of these people that are being hurt in these countries. It was a fantastic poem to help others get a good point of view of the pain these people are put through.
