Blood diamonds may have found its way into India

MUMBAI: An Indian diamond merchant and the head of a premier trade body have ruled out the possibility of blood diamonds from Zimbabwe’s Marange fields being imported into India. Diamonds that are used by rebel movements to finance wars against legitimate governments are known as blood, or conflict diamonds.

Their admission came amid fears raised by Pooja Kotwani, India head of Rapaport, the world’s primary source of polished diamond prices and market information, of the possibility of blood diamonds from Marange having found their way into India, the world’s largest cutting and polishing centre of rough diamonds.

There is a news article that state that the blood diamond problem may have spread to India, which would be terrible. If the problem is spreading to other countries it will be harder to stop in the future. Hopefully this isn’t true, but if it is a solution to end the battle over these diamonds would have to be come up with as soon as possible.
